Yang Kyong Il, who came first in the 2009 World Wrestling Championships and the 2009 Asian Wrestling Championships, bagged a gold medal in the 55kg men's freestyle wrestling event.

So Sim Hyang won a silver medal in the 48kg women's wrestling match while Han Kum Ok carried off a bronze medal in the 51kg women's wrestling event.

The games held from January 29 to 31 brought together at least 380 wrestlers from more than 20 countries including the DPRK, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkey, Ukraine, the U.S. and Japan.
