Gift Plants Grow Well in Korea

Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Plants belonging to Begonia hiemalis cv. and Bougainvillea spectabilis cv. have come into bloom in various colors in the International Friendship Greenhouse of the Central Botanical Garden of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. They were sent to General Secretary Kim Jong Il by Mototeru Kamo, a Japanese botanist and horticulturist, as gift on the occasions of the New Year Juche 99 (2010) and his birthday (February 16). Besides such plants as Rhododendron indicum, Rhododendron Schlippenbachii, Hibiscus rosa-sinensic cv. luteus, Oncidium flexuosam, Acalypha hispida have sprung into bloom or leaf. Growing in the greenhouse are lots of plants including Areca catechu, Washingtonia filifera and Euphorbia pulcherrima. All of them were sent to President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il by foreign people and overseas Koreans as gifts. The number of gift plants has steadily increased. The greenhouse has acclimatized them to the climatic and soil conditions of Korea to send some of them to other botanical gardens throughout the country. |
