At the ceremony speakers said that it is the unanimous desire of the people in the south to see the Armistice Agreement replaced with a peace treaty and achieve independence and peaceful reunification, calling upon all the people to turn out in a struggle to make this year a year for bringing about a landmark phase in the efforts to get a peace treaty concluded for the Korean Peninsula.

They noted that progressive organizations of all strata would solidarize with each other to stage widespread actions for abolishing the humiliating south Korea-U.S. "alliance" and frustrating the moves for expanding the U.S. military bases.
