Joint National Meeting of KCU Held
Pyongyang, February 16 (KCNA) -- A joint national meeting of the Korean Children's Union organizations was held at the Taekwon-Do Hall on Tuesday to celebrate the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Attending it were KCU delegates from provinces and KCU members in Pyongyang.

Present on invitation were Kim Jung Rin, Yang Hyong Sop and others, officials of party organs and the youth league, war veterans and persons of merit.

Ri Yong Chol, first secretary of the Central Committee of the youth league, in his report said that the birth of Kim Jong Il as the son of the guerrillas in Mt. Paektu, a holy mountain of revolution, was a great fortune of the nation. The Korean revolution could advance along the road of victory and glory under the banner of Songun with historic February, he added.

The KCU members are staunchly growing up to be reliable successors to the revolutionary cause of Songun and cultivating their hope and talents to the full under Kim Jong Il's loving care, the reporter said, stressing the need for all the KCU members to study hard and participate in the KCU organizational life in good faith and thus grow to be staunch reserves of the revolution who will accomplish the revolutionary cause of Songun generation after generation.

A ceremony for admission into the KCU took place at the meeting.

The pupils to join the KCU pledged an admission oath before the KCU flag.

Cadres, war veterans and persons of merit tied red neckerchiefs around the necks of newcomers into the KCU and pinned badges on their chests.

Then congratulatory speeches were made by war veteran Sin Hyo Sung, Prof. and Dr. Pak Ji Min of Kim Chaek University of Technology, and People's Sportswoman Sa Ok Jin.

They requested the new KCU members to firmly prepare themselves as the pillars to take on their shoulders the future of Songun Korea, cherishing the intense loyalty to Kim Jong Il.
