To advance under the uplifted banner of self-reliance is an important requirement for achieving greater victory in the present gigantic drive based on the shining successes and experience gained in the struggle for great surge.

To give fuller play to the spirit of self-reliance in all fields and units is an urgent requirement for bringing about a decisive turn in the economic construction and in improving people's standard of living this year by turning to good account the economic foundation and potentials.

Tremendous are the foundation and potentials of the self-supporting economy of the DPRK as they have been built in the struggle of the Songun revolution under the experienced and tested leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The Korean people are strong in creativity as they are possessed of brave fighting spirit and modern science and technology by which they create everything from nothing and valiantly push back the frontiers of science. The national economy of the DPRK has been made more Juche-oriented and modern and was put on a higher level. Unlimited are the DPRK's intellectual and material potentials some of which have already been created and some have not yet been developed. Auspicious events pleasing all the people including the start of mass production of vinalon have taken place one after another this year, too, in the wake of last year. This fact proves how great potentials the DPRK's self-supporting economic foundation has.

The officials and party members and other working people should wage a dynamic drive for a great surge in the spirit of self-reliance on all fronts with conviction and optimism about the future of a thriving nation, the editorial appeals.
