The moment it was reported that the Japanese government seeks to exclude the Korean schools in Japan from the tuition-free program for senior high schools, the organization of the Korean Youth League in Japan of Joson University formed the emergency measure committee and expressed its will to take the lead in the struggle to defend national education. It called upon the organizations of Koreans in Japan to turn out in the struggle to lay bare the unreasonable discrimination against the Korean schools and check it. All the students of the university conducted a signature campaign and information activities in different parts on March 6. And members of Koreans' organizations in Kyoto including the Kyoto Prefectural Measure Committee for National Education of Koreans in Japan held an emergency meeting on March 5 at which they demanded the Japanese authorities apply the "program" into all foreign schools including the Korean schools. Korean schools in Japan and civic organizations of Japan, too, cosponsored an emergency meeting in Osaka on March 4 at which they charged that the Japanese government is seeking to institutionalize the discrimination against the Koreans in Japan, linking the exclusion of the Korean schools from the "program" to the "abduction issue". |
