Japans' Discrimination against Korean Schools under Fire
Pyongyang, March 20 (KCNA) -- Japanese organizations strongly urged the authorities to include the Koreans schools in the tuition-free program for senior high schools.

The Nagano Prefectural People's Council for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea in a letter of protest to the Japanese chief executive reminded him that the right to equal education is stipulated in the Japan Constitution, demanding the government put all schools including Korean schools in the above-said program according to the bill on providing assistance to the senior high schools.

The Society for Japan-Korea Friendship Promotion on March 4 sent a letter to an emergency meeting of Okinawa Prefecture urging the authorities to include Korean schools in Japan in the said program without discrimination. Noting that it is a foolish way of thinking to use the issue of education for achieving diplomatic and political purposes, the organization in the letter called on all Japanese to turn out in the actions against the moves to exclude the Korean schools from the program.

In another development, protests of Koreans in Japan against the Japanese authorities' unreasonable discrimination are being staged in various parts of Japan everyday.

Leading members of the Korean Youth League in Japan, the Korean Students Union in Japan, the Korean Youth Commercial Association in Japan and other organizations and teachers and students of Korean schools and compatriots conducted information service at major railway stations in Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kyoto and Osaka and 14 other areas on March 11 and 12 while personages concerned of Korean schools in Kinki area staged actions to urge the Diet to fairly handle the issue of assisting Korean schools.

Representatives of Koreans in Osaka visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to present a written request and a paper containing signatures of more than 9,000 people to it on March 10 while representatives of Koreans in Kyoto conveyed to lawmakers a letter of request addressed to the Japanese prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The managing director of the Korean Academy in Hyogo, principals of various schools, the representative of mothers and representatives of the civic organization for supporting schools in Hyogo called on lawmakers on March 11 and requested them to make efforts to find a solution to the issue of assisting the Korean schools with a proper understanding of national education.
