Hydrometeorological Research Work Active
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- The Hydro-meteorological Service of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has intensified a research work for giving accurate and immediate weather forecast and extensively developing and utilizing water resources.

The Central Meteorological Research Institute, based on satellite data, has built up a database of climate conditions suitable for major crop fields to give information of crops growth forecast in a regular way and put the agricultural production on a stable basis.

The institute has established a data processing system depending on MODIS satellite to make it possible to prevent natural disaster and pollution through strict observation of the atmosphere and environment in meteorological, marine, fishing and other sectors.

It has also established a dust storm forecast system and introduced precision equipment in acid rain measurement.

The Hydrological Institute has renewed the standard of hydraulic structures design to increase the construction speed of hydroelectric power stations while considerably reducing their construction costs. It has also developed a water-flow control system for power stations.

Colorful functions have been held in the DPRK to mark the World Meteorological Day, March 23, according to this year's theme "60 Years of Service for Your Safety and Well-being" presented by the World Meteorological Organization.
