A press release read out at the conference accused the authorities of frantically intensifying the suppression of activities of trade unions under the KCTU by mobilizing all their power after branding them as "illegal ones".

This suppression is aimed to ward off the protest of the core forces of the KCTU against the dictatorship of the "government" and the "Grand National Party" with the "election to the local self-governing bodies" at hand, the press release noted.

Warning that the organizations would react to the authorities' suppression of the KCTU with actions, the press release called on all the people to turn out in the actions for the democratization of the society and the guarantee of the workers' basic rights.
