Korean Language Has Long History
Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- The Korean people have created and developed their own language from long time ago.

Old documents prove that they have used a common language so far.

It is characterized by the distinct composition of consonants and vowels, rich expressions and nice intonation.

Korean alphabet, Hunminjongum, came into being in January 1444 in succession to Sinji characters.

Basic characters of Hunminjongum were created by imitating shapes of such speech organs as tongue, lips, teeth and throat and, on the basis of them, other characters were made by adding strokes to the basic characters or by compounding two or three characters.

Being easy to learn and write is another merit of Hunminjongum.

The creation of Hunminjongum marked a signal event in the history of the Korean language, which has been steadily developed from the period of Tangun's Korea.
