Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- What is essential in ensuring peace and security in the Korean Peninsula and the region at present is to put an end to the hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S. Hong Son Ok, vice-chairperson of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly who is heading its delegation, stressed this on March 31 when speaking at the plenary meeting of the 122nd Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. To ensure peace and security comes up as the vital problem for the DPRK which could not but have access to nuclear weapons for the purpose of defending its sovereignty and the right to existence from the persistent nuclear threat of the U.S., she said, and went on: The way for terminating the hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S. based on long-standing distrust is to build confidence of each other by concluding a peace treaty between them. The slow progress of the six-party talks, too, is due to the lack of confidence between the two countries. With this lack of confidence the DPRK's satellite launch for peaceful purposes was called to task as "missile launch" and measure of sanctions taken to wantonly violate its sovereignty and, after all, it resulted in the nuclear test on the part of the DPRK as its self-defensive step. The DPRK remains unchanged in its stand to provide a durable peacekeeping mechanism and realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and negotiation. The DPRK, regarding independence, peace and friendship as the idea of its foreign policy, will as ever strive to build a peaceful and prosperous world, develop the good neighborly relations with other countries and realize global independence. She expressed belief that the conscientious parliamentarians of the world speaking for justice would have a proper understanding of the present situation of the Korean Peninsula and continue to support the Korean people in the struggle for the national reunification and the regional peace and security, independent development and prosperity. |
