The Komdok area is abundant in several dozen kinds of mineral resources, including zincblende and galena.

Long time ago the Komdok valley was developed into a small-sized silver mine.

The Japanese imperialists, who monopolized the development right of the mine during their occupation of Korea, had plundered it of silver in the beginning but lead and zinc, too, in large quantities since the middle of the 1930s.

After the liberation of the country, the Komdok Mine began to make a considerable development while removing the backwardness, a leftover from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule.

During the Fatherland Liberation War a prospecting corps was formed for the area and a new dressing plant was constructed in the mine. After the war the mine had more large-scale pits built to expand the scope of production.

It, which turned into the Komdok Mining Complex later, replaced existing mining equipment with large and high-speed ones and diversified ore transport on a high level, laid long-distance belt conveyer transportation lines, built dressing plants Nos. 2 and 3 and pushed ahead with the development of a new mine.

Of late it has provided large-sized stopes, raised the ore transport capacity more than two times and built a large settling reservoir to fully dispose of residue from ore dressing plants.

The Komdok Mining Complex is now playing a big role in the building of a great, prosperous and powerful nation.
