Attending the event were officials of ministries and national institutions, public and health organizations.

On hand were staff members of the missions of international organizations including the mission of the WHO in the DPRK, the Swedish ambassador to the DPRK and staff members of embassies of foreign countries here.

Ri Pong Hun, vice-minister of Public Health, addressing the meeting, said that the DPRK has taken state measures to improve the ecological environment of all areas including cities and rural areas.

He stressed that the DPRK would as ever continue paying deep attention to the urbanization and the health of people in close touch with international organizations.

Sarveshwar Puri, representative of the WHO, made a speech there.

A CD related to the issue of urbanization and health of people was shown and a group performance of the Taekwon-Do exercise for health by public health workers took place at the event.

A similar event took place in Phyongsong City in South Phyongan Province on the day.

Speeches were made by Choe Kwang Ho, vice-chairman of the Phyongsong City People's Committee, and Sarveshwar Puri.

The attendants planted trees of good species before appreciating a performance given by a hygienic propaganda team of schoolchildren.

The day was also observed in various parts of the country.
