Present there were senior party, army and state officials, chairpersons of friendly parties, deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly, leading officials of party, armed forces and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, officers and men of the Korean People's Army, officials in the fields of science, education, culture and arts, public health and the press, labor innovators and working people in the city.

Vice Marshal of the KPA Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the NDC of the DPRK and minister of the People's Armed Forces, made a report at the meeting.

Kim Jong Il's election as NDC chairman was an event of special mention as it provided a sure guarantee for defending the idea of President Kim Il Sung on building self-reliant defence capability and feats performed by him generation after generation and steadily pushing forward the building of a rich and powerful country and the revolutionary cause of Juche, the reporter said, and went on:

Kim Jong Il formulated the Songun politics as the basic political mode under socialism with clear insight into the requirement of the Korean revolution in which the anti-imperialist military front has become the main front, first lifeline on which hinges the destiny of the country, the nation and socialism.

The establishment of the Songun political mode, whereby the military affairs are prioritized as the most important state affairs and the KPA is put forward as core and main forces in defending the country, revolution and socialism and pushing forward socialist construction as a whole, paved the most scientific and original way for shaping policies under socialism. It also provided the army and people of the DPRK with an all-powerful treasured sword for advancing the revolution and construction in an independent and creative way according to their faith.

The DPRK has resolutely frustrated all forms of aggression and challenges of the imperialists and demonstrated its might as an invincible socialist state which wins victory after victory along the road of Juche, the road of Songun, while taking the lead in carrying out the human cause of independence and the socialist cause. This is a precious fruition of the outstanding Songun politics pursued by
Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il has raised the position and authority of the NDC and established the state leadership system with the NDC as a backbone, thus firmly consolidating the state social system on the principle of giving priority to military affairs and providing a firm power guarantee for embodying the Songun politics in all fields.

The historic course covered by the DPRK under the leadership of Kim Jong Il is shining as the sacred annals during which he safeguarded the supreme interests of the state with his invincible Songun revolutionary leadership and put the country's overall power on the highest stage.

Kim Jong Il represents the dignity of our country, the destiny of the nation and the banner for all victories and glory, the reporter said, underscoring the need to bring about a decisive turn in improving the people's standard of living on the basis of the great victory won in effecting a great surge, build a great and prosperous powerful socialist nation, achieve the country's reunification and bring earlier the ultimate victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche under his Songun revolutionary leadership.

Tense and acute confrontation still persists on the Korean Peninsula owing to the U.S. invariable hostile policy toward the DPRK, he said, declaring:

If the U.S. dares intrude into the inviolable sky, land and seas of the DPRK even 0.001mm, the army and the people of the DPRK will completely blow up the enemy stronghold with resolute and merciless strikes.
