The statement noted that 62 years have passed since the inhabitants of Jeju Island kindled the torch of the April 3 Popular Resistance against the U.S. imperialists' moves to divide Korea into two, thus strikingly demonstrating the Korean nation's will for independent reunification.

The flames of the resistance, which erupted like a volcano to oppose the U.S. imperialists and the pro-American Syngman Rhee group's scheme for establishment of "separate government" with the desire for the unified independent and sovereign state, are still burning the hearts of the popular masses, it said.

The statement stressed the need to inherit the spirit of the uprisers and hold higher the banner of the June 15 joint declaration to stand against the U.S. imperialists and the sycophantic traitors who are getting hell-bent on the anti-DPRK confrontation while seeking to bring the dark clouds of a nuclear war to this land.
