That day the police detectives of the "Security Investigation Group" in Kwangju suddenly arrested by force Kim Hyon Ung, student of Chonnam National University who was chief of the Action Headquarters of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils for 2008, in the university campus, the statement charged.

It accused the present "government" of recently making desperate efforts to create a terror-ridden atmosphere in the society in a bid to get out of its predicament before the "election to the local self-governing bodies".

The authorities have intensified harsh suppression under the pretext of public security in a bid to tide over crisis but they should clearly understand that they can never evade stern punishment by people and history, the statement warned.

It urged the authorities to immediately stop the anachronistic repression and step down, instead of working in vain to blindfold the people and stop their ears and reverse the trend of the people's mindset.
