The participants in the meeting declared that the present regime represents the remnant forces of Yusin dictatorship and a dictatorial regime which grabbed power through a "May 16 military coup" after bringing the success of the April 19 uprising to naught.

Since the emergence of the present regime achievements made by people from all walks of life in the struggle for democracy at the cost of blood have been totally denied, the people's living has been further deteriorated and the inter-Korean relations have been brought back to those of confrontation in the past, they deplored.

Noting that the prevailing situation bears a close resemblance to the situation on the eve of the April 19 uprising, they called upon all the people to turn out in the struggle to achieve democratic rights and realize independent reunification by carrying forward the spirit displayed by the participants in the uprising half a century ago.

They reiterated their will to make every effort to bring earlier a new era of independent reunification on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
