The statement recalled that ever since their coming to power the authorities have worked hard to put media under their control; they railroaded the "bill on media" through the "National Assembly" and suppressed the people from all walks of life for opposing it and replaced the managers of various media organizations with their stooges.

The authorities are getting so desperate to put media under their control because they know there is no way to calm down the ever-mounting protest of people without concealing all the crimes committed by them and they seek to hold a favorable position in the forthcoming "election to local self-governing bodies", the statement noted.

It called upon all the people not to tolerate any move of the authorities to put media under their control but punish the present regime by their concerted efforts.
