The uprising, staged in south Korea on April 19, 1960, was a popular resistance against the U.S. imperialists and their stooges' colonial fascist rule over south Korea, the statement said, and went on:

At that time, reverence for President Kim Il Sung and longing for the northern half of Korea, independent and socialist, were growing deeper and stronger among the south Korean people.

The south Korean people supported the line of independent and peaceful reunification advanced by the President and longed for withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea and for a new independent and democratic society.

Their pent-up wrath erupted as a massive resistance with the "March 15 fraudulent elections" as an occasion and, after all, the puppet Syngman Rhee clique could not but step down from "power" on April 26, 1960.

Though the pro-American Syngman Rhee puppet regime was overthrown, the U.S. imperialists' colonial domination and their stooges' fascist rule have lasted so far, the statement pointed out, adding: However, the fighting spirit of the south Korean people remains unchanged and the day will surely come when they emerge victorious.
