Kim Il Sung University Boasts Its E-Library

Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Il Sung University, the highest seat of the Juche-based education, boasts its E-Library, an ultramodern education, science information service center. The five-storied library has a total floor space of more than 15,000 square meters. It is on the world standard in terms of data base and service capacity. The data base of the library is rich in information about the whole of Korea and all countries of the world. It includes the works of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, information about the revolutionary histories of the three commanders of Mt. Paektu, books, magazines and treatises in the fields of social science and natural science, scientific and technological books, magazines and excerpts from publications of different countries of the world, patented materials, and science films and special scientific and technological files and other animation files and programs. The data base of the library will steadily gain in scope as it has all kinds of latest digital facilities capable of converting information into e-books and animation files. All units of the university centered on the E-Library form a high-speed information circuit connected with a dense network of CDMA communication. Having an academic and material and technological foundation for comprehensive and specialized service, the E-Library is operating tens of thousands of latest electronic equipment of more than 100 varieties in dozens of rooms including reading halls, IT service hall, multimedia reading hall, combined lecture hall and academic exchange room. All services ranging from catalogue browsing, book and information reading and lectures to taking care of readers have been placed on a scientific and IT basis under the system of e-library service and management and operation peculiar to the DPRK. The library equipped with the latest stereophonic sound system, radio network system, projecting and other facilities can provide most convenient and ideal conditions for hosting international academic exchanges, scientific symposiums and presentations of treatises and other events. As its lecture rooms are remote-controlled, students of the university and people in any other parts of the country can receive real time lectures or recorded ones. There is in the library a special reading room for veteran professors. The library is ideally based on formative and artistic architecture as required by its nature and mission and Juche-oriented architectural beauty. |
