Displayed in the venue were photos showing immortal Songun leadership exploits of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The gathering was attended by officials of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the Agro-stock Co-op Farm Named after "Heroes of Yaguajay" and the DPRK ambassador to Cuba and his embassy officials.

Juan Jose Leon Vega, first vice-chairman of the Cuban committee, said at the gathering that President Kim Il Sung embarked upon the road of revolution in his teens to liberate Korea usurped by the Japanese imperialists and founded the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and led the hard-fought anti-Japanese armed struggle to victory.

He went on to say:

Kim Il Sung, the founder of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Korean People's Army and the DPRK, led the three-year Fatherland Liberation War fought against the U.S. imperialists and their stooges to victory and wisely steered the work for the postwar rehabilitation and construction and socialist construction and dedicated all his life to the cause of independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

He, who devoted all his life to the Korean revolution and the cause of global independence, is always alive in the hearts of the Korean people and all other progressive people of the world.

The speaker expressed the will to strive to boost the friendship and unity between the two peoples this significant year marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the 65th anniversary of the foundation of the WPK and the 30th anniversary of the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo.
