Kim Il Sung founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF) in May Juche 25 (1936) as an anti-Japanese national united front involving broad sections of patriotic forces to considerably strengthen the domestic force of the revolution and bring about a fresh upsurge in the Korean revolution.

Since the foundation of the ARF the unity of the revolutionary ranks has been consolidated with the leader as its core and on the basis of monolithic ideology and tremendous achievements made in accomplishing the cause of socialism.

In line with the President's idea of forming a united front, the Workers' Party of Korea developed into a mass party and the Korean people won the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953) and successfully carried out two stages of the complicated social revolution.

The validity and vitality of his idea of great national unity have been fully manifested in the effort for reunifying the country and attaining the prosperity of the nation.

The tradition of the unity has been carried forward successfully by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

He, under the banner of Songun politics, has achieved the unity of the whole Party, entire army and all the people in ideology and working manner based on the revolutionary soldier spirit. It is thanks to his outstanding and seasoned leadership that the Korean people have registered signal successes in the building of a thriving nation in spite of vicious and persistent challenges of the imperialists.
