The KPA originated from the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army founded by President Kim Il Sung, the statement said, noting that under his leadership the KPA beat the two formidable enemies the U.S. and Japanese imperialists and frustrated the U.S. imperialists' repeated threats of aggression and all their moves to provoke a war.

The statement recalled that the President developed the KPA into a-match-for-a hundred steel-strong ranks and genuine Juche-type revolutionary armed forces and that it has grown to be an invincible army under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The KPA, having powerful war deterrence, is standing firm at the outpost of the anti-imperialist and class struggle as vanguard of the glorious Songun revolution, the statement stressed.
