The bulletin in an article titled "Tradition of the Great Unity of the Korean Nation" said the Korean people have deep roots of the great national unity, referring to the fact that President Kim Il Sung founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, the first anti-Japanese national united front in Korea, on May 5, 1936.

On the basis of this tradition of the great national unity, the President aroused the people from all walks of life to building a democratic and independent sovereign state and realizing the country's reunification after its liberation, the bulletin noted, and went on:

He set forth the three principles of national reunification, thus laying a firm foundation for the national unity and the country's reunification.

His idea of great national unity has been successfully carried forward by General Secretary
Kim Jong Il.

Thanks to Kim Jong Il's bold decision, the north-south summit meeting was provided in June 2000, the first of its kind after the division of Korea, which resulted in the adoption and publication of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration in which both sides solemnly committed themselves to the solution of the issue of the country's reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation.

The north-south summit meeting held in October 2007 culminated in the adoption of the October 4 declaration, a programme for implementing the historic June 15 joint declaration, thus opening up a brighter prospect for Korea's reunification.
