The statement recalled that citizens of Kwangju kindled the flame of the struggle for democracy against dictatorship 30 years ago, clearly demonstrating the spirit of people's resistance against the fascist dictatorial forces.

The true nature of the U.S. which stands against the democratization of the south Korean society and the reunification of the divided Korean nation was brought into bolder relief in this period, the statement said.

It called upon all the people to turn out in the struggle to judge the present conservative ruling forces and get the humiliating south Korea-U.S. "alliance" for aggression scrapped by inheriting the spirit of the participants in the May 18 Kwangju resistance.

It stressed the need for the people to fight against the present regime which only deteriorates people's livelihood and, at the same time, categorically reject the war moves of the U.S. and drive its forces, the root cause of war, out of south Korea.

The statement called upon all the people to more dynamically conduct the struggle for independence, democracy and reunification by their concerted efforts.
