Kim Jong Il Inspects Hamhung Chemical Industry Univ.

Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Hamhung University of Chemical Industry. He saw data on the achievements made by the university in scientific researches in recent years. The university has waged a dynamic drive to devotedly implement the militant tasks set forth by him while giving field guidance to it in November four years ago, thus successfully carrying out a lot of valuable research subjects which are of weighty importance in the development of the nation's industry. After receiving a report on the researches, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the teaching staff and students of the university succeeded in the researches into fresh cutting-edge technology by devoting their wisdom and enthusiasm. This precious success once again clearly shows the inexhaustible creative ingenuity and talents of the technical personnel who have grown under the care of the WPK, he noted. Making the rounds of laboratories furnished with cutting-edge equipment and other places, he acquainted himself in detail with the education at the university and its scientific researches. He was greatly pleased to learn that the teaching staff of the university have created good environment for education and brought about a new turn in education and scientific researches as required by the developing reality. He said that the university founded at the personal initiative of President Kim Il Sung is a university of merit as it has trained many able technical personnel who would shoulder upon themselves the nation's chemical industry over the past years, thereby making a great contribution to building a rich and powerful country. Saying that a great many graduates from the university are now playing a pivotal role in settling lots of scientific and technological problems arising in various domains of the national economy including chemical industry and exploring new scientific and technical fields, he emphasized that the party and people would always remember the feats performed by the teaching staff and students of the university for the party, the revolution, the country and the people. He met educationists and researchers who have rendered distinguished services for the education of the younger generation and scientific researches while working at the university for years and gave a warm pep-talk to them. Praising teachers and researchers as loyal revolutionaries who devoted their all to the prosperity of the country, he highly estimated their feats and had a photograph taken with them. He advanced important tasks to be carried out by the university. Only when lots of competent and versatile reserve scientists and technicians are trained is it possible to develop the nation's economy and put its science and technology on the world's level in the shortest possible period, he said, underscoring the need for the university to train many more technical personnel capable of making a positive contribution to further consolidating the foundation of the independent national economy and giving fullest play to its potential. He called on the university to train many more scientists and technicians high at technological level in a short period and thus solve immediate problems arising in putting the national economy on a Juche, modern and scientific basis and, at the same time, widely explore new scientific and technological fields of great importance in developing the nation's chemical industry. In order to develop science and technology as required by the age of knowledge-based economy, it is necessary to firmly arm students with new technical knowledge, he said, underlining the need to briskly conduct the work to introduce advanced technology while keeping in close touch with scientific and research institutions and universities. He stressed the need to make an effective use of laboratories at the best level and train students as able technical personnel and brave persons pushing back the frontiers of the latest science and technology. In order to support the advance of the Korean people for a great revolutionary surge in the drive for building a rich and powerful country with science and technology, it is important to steadily increase the ranks of scientists and technicians, he said, calling for scaling as early as possible the high eminence of a thriving nation by dint of science and technology. He expressed expectation and conviction that the whole teaching staff and all students of the university would bear deep in mind the importance of their duties for developing the nation's chemical industry and bring about a fresh turn in training scientific and technical personnel and developing science and technology. He was accompanied by Thae Jong Su, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Secretary Kim Ki Nam, Department Directors Kim Kyong Hui and Jang Song Thaek and First Vice Department Directors Ju Kyu Chang and Ri Je Gang of the WPK Central Committee and Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su, department directors of the NDC. |
