The publication of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration marked a historic event as it brought about a landmark turn in the struggle of the Korean people to achieve the national reunification, their supreme task, the statement noted, and went on:

The basic spirit of the joint declaration is "By our nation itself".

After the adoption of the declaration the Korean Peninsula witnessed the advent of a new era unimaginable in the past as evidenced by dialogues and negotiations that took place in various fields between the north and the south.

The movement for Korea's reunification is, however, facing grave difficulties due to the extreme moves of the present south Korean authorities against the DPRK.

Unshakable is the will of the Korean nation to foil the moves of the anti-reunification separatist forces at home and abroad and achieve the country's reunification.

The June 15 North-South Joint Declaration provided by leader Kim Jong Il serves as a milestone and signpost for Korea's reunification as it is supported and welcomed not only by the Korean nation but also by the whole world.

Hoping that fresh progress would be made in the movement for Korea's reunification this year marking the 10th anniversary of the joint declaration and the 30th anniversary of the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, the statement extended support and solidarity to the Korean people in the struggle to achieve the country's reunification as early as possible.
