On this basis, the DPRK has taken measures to protect natural environment and increased state investment for this purpose, paying a primary attention to the promotion of the people's health.

Effective gas and dust collection devices and sewage disposal facilities have been introduced to prevent or considerably reduce the environmental pollution from production, construction and development. A nationwide network has been set up to regularly observe and analyze the environmental condition of the country, including atmosphere and water.

In spring and autumn seasons, good species of trees are planted in mountains, villages and streets, and rivers and roads improved through a nationwide campaign.

A forest-fire monitoring system is working with the help of satellite, forestation and forest conservation, including the protection of trees from damage by harmful insects, have been carried on in a planned way and nature preservation areas designated and put under good care.

Besides, minor power stations have been built in all parts of the country, natural energy including solar heat and wind power utilized to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, and barrages and dams erected in rivers, riverbeds dredged and bank-protecting forests created in a far-sighted way.

In order to cope with such international problems as climate change, destruction of ozone layer, decrease of biodiversity, desertification and dust storm, the DPRK has promoted cooperation and interchange with various international organizations and other countries.

On the occasion of the World Environment Day (June 5), a national seminar on the protection of biodiversity and other colorful functions are to be held in the DPRK.
