The statement noted that the adoption and publication of the joint declaration in Pyongyang in June of 2000 marked an epochal event in the modern history of Korea.

The spirit of "By our nation itself", the core of the joint declaration, calls for achieving the reunification of Korea by the concerted efforts of the Koreans, it said, and went on:

The implementation of the joint declaration opened up a bright prospect of achieving Korean reunification for the first time since the division on the Korean Peninsula.

However, the process of reconciliation and cooperation on the peninsula was brought back to the dark period of confrontation after the Lee Myung Bak group came to power.

The present situation on the peninsula has grown extremely tense owing to the reckless moves of the Lee group.

In case a new war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, it may develop into a global war.

We appeal to all the British progressive organizations and people to wage a positive movement for supporting the peaceful reunification of Korea and the struggle of the south Korean people and urge the south Korean authorities to implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and opt for achieving the reunification of the peninsula.
