The letter described the historic Pyongyang summit and the birth of the June 15 joint declaration in June ten years ago, which put all Koreans and the whole world in excitement, as a brilliant fruition of the distinguished Songun politics of Kim Jong Il, the peerless patriot, and his noble will for reunification and a great event to be specially recorded in the history of the nation.

It noted that he provided another historic Pyongyang summit in October 2007 and adopted the "Declaration for Development of North-South Relations and Peace and Prosperity", a programme for implementing the June 15 joint declaration, and thus put the June 15 era of reunification on a new higher stage, instilling all the compatriots with great confidence and hope for reunification.

It further said:

You saw to it that initiative and bold measures were taken one after another to improve the inter-Korean relations getting worse due to desperate confrontation moves of the pro-U.S. conservative ruling forces, and this year inspiringly encouraged all Koreans to the struggle for glorifying the 10th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration.

Our people are replete with optimism and confidence that our country is sure to be reunified into one despite the anti-reunification storm as there are you who are demonstrating the dignity of the nation to the whole world and ushering in the greatest heyday of building a great prosperous and powerful nation under the great banner of Songun and the June 15 joint declaration, a signpost of national reunification.

The AINDF will wage the vigorous struggle to defend and implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, invariably holding them high as the immortal banners of independent reunification, peace and prosperity, resolutely frustrate the moves of the pro-U.S. conservative forces swimming against them and bring about a new phase for independent reunification in the idea of "By our nation itself", the letter stressed.
