|
|
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Makkoli is a favorite drink of the Korean people. The crude liquor is served at many public catering establishments in Pyongyang, including restaurants in Changgwang Street and Pothonggang District. Different areas of the country boast of Makkoli made with their special pharmaceuticals. Makkoli has a long history in the country. It, made by fermenting grains, was developed to be a popular drink in ancient times. It was diversified in kind and brewing method through the periods of three kingdoms (Koguryo, Paekje and Silla), Koryo and the Ri Dynasty. The drink is mainly divided into three kinds -- high-grade Makkoli made of rice and fine malt, ordinary Makkoli made of grains, their bran and malt, and medicinal Makkoli made with Koryo medicines. The refreshing drink has a mix of sweet and sour tastes. It, easy in the brewing method and short in the brewing period, has a peculiar flavor and contains many nutritive ingredients. |
