Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) -- Members of south Korean civic and public organizations including the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and representatives of opposition parties held a "national meeting for peace and reunification marking the 10th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration" at Jogye Temple in Seoul on June 15. Speakers at the meeting said that they could not repress anger at the Lee Myung Bak "government" as it has brought to naught all the successes made in the efforts to achieve inter-Korean reconciliation in total denial of the June 15 joint declaration and intensified confrontation with fellow countrymen since it came to power. They condemned the authorities for faking up the case of warship "Cheonan" sinking, driving the situation to the brink of a war. The authorities will not escape the nation's severe punishment unless they roll back their policy of confrontation with the DPRK at an early date, the speakers warned. They stressed that it is the most urgent issue in implementing the June 15 joint declaration to force the present "government" to make a switchover in its policy of confrontation with fellow countrymen. A joint statement of the north, south and overseas side committees of All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration was read out there. The south Korean Teachers Union in its statement on June 14 stressed that the June 15 joint declaration should be implemented at an early date in order to hand over to the generations to come a reunified country, peaceful and good to live in. Meanwhile, the south Korean Federation of Peasants Associations in its statement on June 15 urged the Lee Myung Bak "government" to drop its policy of confrontation with the DPRK and immediately opt for implementing the joint declaration. |
