Story of Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- Early in June Juche 68 (1979), President Kim Il Sung provided field guidance to Tongbong Co-op Farm in Hamju County, South Hamgyong Province. After acquainting himself with rice-transplantation, he said with anxiety that in recent days when he had stayed in the province, it was sunny in only one or two days and cloudy with low temperatures in all other days. He then asked an official of the farm how the rice fields had been irrigated. The official answered that they had been watered often as rice-transplanting had been just finished and rain had not come on. The President told him that it would not be good to water rice field often in cold weather and that water should be kept on rice fields for some days to raise the water temperature. The method was suitable to the farms in the area. The President also taught the officials of the farm another irrigation method -- keeping water on rice fields until they become fully wet and soft. The officials, who had been worried about the management of rice field irrigation, admired his profound knowledge of farming. |
