Chilgol Folk Restaurant

Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- There are many restaurants specializing in national dishes in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Chilgol Folk Restaurant is one of them. The two-storied restaurant has a 150-seat dining hall, a souvenir stand, a wedding hall, etc. It serves rice-cake soup, cold noodle, boiled rice mixed with subsidiary articles of diet, mung-bean pancake, makkoli (crude liquor) and other seasonal dishes and produces bean curd, fermented soybean sauce and other foodstuffs for citizens. Tara vine fruit, wild grape and other wild fruits, and dishes made of leopard plant, bracken and other edible herbs are also served at the restaurant. Most popular among the dishes of the restaurant are boiled rice with beanpaste soup and ssukttok (rice cake seasoned with wormwood). There are nearly ten kinds of ssukttok, including steamed rice cake, glutinous rice-cake, half-moon-shaped rice-cake and bell-shaped rice-cake. The national dishes presented by the restaurant were highly appreciated at the 14th and 15th April Holiday Food Festivals held last year and this year. Cha Song Chil, 66, a resident in Mangyongdae District, told KCNA that boiled rice with beanpaste soup served by the restaurant was one of his favorite dishes as it was very tasty and good for health. Han Yong Suk, 62, manager of the restaurant, said that she would try to make the restaurant serve more and better national dishes to gain greater popularity among citizens. The restaurant is situated in Chilgol-dong No. 3, Mangyongdae District. |
