Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- A person concerned of the south Korean puppet joint investigation team clarified on June 29 that the torpedo design which south Korea made public when announcing the "results of the investigation" into the case of warship sinking was not the design of torpedo CHT-02D of the north that was presumed to have attacked "Cheonan". He said that the "joint investigation team" used a design of other torpedo to explain the size of a propelling body of the torpedo and positions of various parts because the design of the controversy-plagued torpedo was not available at that time. He added that some mistakes were made because time pressed them and several departments were involved in working out the results. As already reported, when announcing the "results of the investigation" on May 20, the puppet joint investigation team claimed that it obtained the design of torpedo CHT-02D which was carried in a brochure of weapons "for export of the north." The team asserted that a propelling body of the torpedo which a civilian fishing boat "unexpectedly picked up" from the waters where "Cheonan" sank was a wreck of the "torpedo of the north" that sent the warship to the bottom of the sea because its size, shape and formation were just the same with those in the design. Commenting on this, south Korean media clarified that it was disclosed the "investigation team" announced the "results of the investigation" based on the false information about the propelling body of the torpedo which it put forward as "crucial evidence" proving the cause of warship sinking. They held that this has made it impossible for the authorities to dodge the public criticism denouncing them for having hurriedly announced the "results of the investigation", timed to coincide with the official starting date of "election" campaign in order to use the case of "Cheonan" for winning in the "elections to local self-governing bodies". |
