The statement noted that Kim Il Sung set national reunification as the supreme task of the nation from the first day of Korea's division. He authored many works on national reunification through his extraordinary ideological and theoretical activities and energetic pursuit, thus indicating the way for the Korean nation to follow.

The three principles of national reunification -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--, the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo advanced by the President serve as the three charters for national reunification that should be always held fast to by the Korean nation in its efforts to achieve national reunification, it said, adding:

Kim Il Sung embraced and led to the road of reunification and patriotism with broad magnanimity and tolerance whoever embarked upon the path of national reunification irrespective of ideology, ism and political view and religion, not questioning about his or her past.
