Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Opera "A Dream of Red Mansions" had been staged by artistes of the Phibada Opera Troupe of the DPRK before full house in China for over 70 days from May 7 to July 18. The Korean artistes staged the opera more than 30 times in 12 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang and Dalian visited by General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Their performance in the wake of his successful unofficial visit to China added to the atmosphere of the DPRK-China friendship. They gave more than 10 additional performances in Tianjin, Changchun, Shenyang, Dalian and other areas, repeatedly extending their stay at the request of the Chinese people. The venues of performances were always packed to capacity with those not only from different parts of China including Taipei but from Japan, the United States, Canada and other regions of the world. A great many people made trips to watch the opera, following the Korean artistes' course. As the opera gained in popularity with each passing day, the number of the audience far exceeded the expected number in different parts of China and Chinese and world media vied with each other to cover the performances. On the initiative of Kim Jong Il, this opera was produced in keeping with the principle of historicism and the modern aesthetic taste in the DPRK on the occasion of the "year of the DPRK-China friendship" in 2009 marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. All elements of representation including the arrangement of orchestra, dance, pangchang (offstage singing) and stage decor are based on theoretical and practical achievements gained in the production of the five revolutionary operas in the DPRK. The performance of opera "A Dream of Red Mansions", which won highest acclaim from across China, gave great joy and encouragement to the peoples of the two countries wishing for steady and vigorous development of the bilateral relations in the new century and made significant contributions to deepening their friendship. |
