Speakers there bitterly denounced the United States and the south Korean authorities for having staged joint naval exercises targeted at the DPRK in the East Sea of Korea under the pretext of the "Cheonan" case.

Referring to the touch and go situation prevailing on the peninsula, they charged that the moves of the U.S. and its tool the Lee Myung Bak regime to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK and their tightening of "alliance" for aggression are seriously threatening peace.

Now is the time for the people from all walks of life including progressive civic and public organizations and political parties to go united in the actions against the U.S. and the Lee regime's rackets for war and confrontation, they held, calling upon all the people to turn out as one in the actions for averting a war and ensuring peace on the peninsula.
