Actions for Rights of Korean Schoolchildren in Japan
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Koreans in Japan and Japanese people are continuing their joint actions in demand of equal rights of Korean schoolchildren in Japan.

Representatives of the Students' Society for Japan-Korea Friendship called at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan on August 4 to strongly demand an immediate measure for aiding Korean schools.

In a written request they called for providing the Korean schoolchildren with the right to learning, noting that the discrimination policy of the Japanese government is creating tendency of national chauvinism in the whole society.

The Japanese government should solve in a responsible manner the issue of aiding the Korean schools at an early date to meet the purport of the tuition-free program for senior high schools, they stressed.

An Jung Gun, principal of Gunma Korean Junior Middle School, and other school officials, officials of the Gunma Prefectural Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and the secretary general of the Gunma Prefectural Council for Japan-Korea Friendship and Solidarity visited the said ministry on the same day to convey the written request addressed to the Japanese prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the signature paper endorsed by more than 3,400 people.

Noting that public opinion supporting Korean schools is growing stronger in society, they urged the Japanese authorities to make a proper decision on this problem.
