S. Korea Accused of Escalating Military Tension
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The preparatory committee for "the August 15 Rally for Probe into the Truth about Warship 'Cheonan' Case and Peace on the Korean Peninsula" made up of more than 30 political parties and organizations of south Korea including the Democratic Labor Party and the Solidarity for Progress called a press conference in Seoul on August 5 to condemn the south Korean puppet group of traitors for escalating the military tension on the Korean Peninsula.

Speakers at the press conference noted that the south-north dialogue and exchanges are suspended and the military tension is increasing as the days go by at a time when the nation is greeting the 65th anniversary of August 15 liberation of Korea.

They accused the authorities of persisting in their policy of confrontation with the DPRK, still insisting on the "results of investigation" beset with distortions and doubts, far from making efforts for a thorough probe into the truth behind the "Cheonan" case.

They lashed out at the authorities for contemplating staging joint military exercises for invading the DPRK together with the U.S. in the future, increasing the likelihood of the tension and confrontation between the south and the north leading to military conflicts and pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the worst phase.

They declared people from all walks of life would launch actions against the Lee Myung Bak regime's moves to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK on the occasion of the liberation day.

They clarified that through these actions they would demand the authorities stop the joint military exercises with the U.S., resume the south-north dialogue, ensure cooperation and exchanges between nongovernmental organizations in the south and the north and implement the June 15 joint declaration, etc.
