"Arirang", Cultural Asset of Humankind
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize, is going on at May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, drawing many local and foreign people.

"Arirang", reflecting the history of the Korean nation and the present and future of Songun Korea in a unique way, is considered to be a masterpiece of the 21st century.

It, performed by 100,000 persons, is admired by the spectators for its kaleidoscopic background and wonderful scenes.

It made its debut in Juche 91 (2002) to commemorate the 90th birth anniversary of President
Kim Il Sung.

Since then it has been performed several hundred times, enjoyed by a total of 12,127,000 people, including 118,000 foreigners.

It was registered in the Guinness Book of World Records in August 2007 and was the first to receive Peace Order and its diploma in April of the same year since it was instituted by "Protectors of Arts for the Century", a Russian international charity fund, to appreciate epoch-making masterpieces, inventions and works.

The U.S. magazine "Time" also selected "Arirang" as the best work of Asia in 2008.

"Arirang" is recognized as cultural asset of humankind.
