Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- One day in September Juche 55 (1966), General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to Chosan County, Jagang Province, early in the morning. Looking around a cornfield, his clothes wet with dew, he took earless cornstalks in his hands. An official told him that some cornstalks had no ear because corn seeds had been sown so thickly. Denying the official's explanation, he said it was because regulation fertilizers had not been applied to the field. After measuring the spaces between cornstalks, he said that farming should be done in such a way as planting all crops close together and taught the officials corn farming methods tested by himself, including corn seed processing, period of sowing, suitable varieties of fertilizers and amount of fertilizers to be applied according to growing stages. Since then, the methods have been accepted by all rural communities in mountainous areas.
