On the initiative of General Secretary Kim Jong Il the school was set up on June 15, Juche 61 (1972). He gave an exposition of issues concerning the operation of the school such as selection of students and contents and methods of education.

He made time to watch performances of its graduates on several occasions, giving guidance to them in their acting, music and rhythmic movement and encouraging them to become able acrobats representing the Juche-oriented acrobatics.

The school gives both general and professional education to help students acquire necessary techniques in a short span of time, while paying close attention to developing their bodies in a proportionate way.

Eleven-term graduates from the school are now active in acrobatic troupes of the country.
