Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- The North Side, the South Side and the Overseas Side Committees for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration released a statement Sunday on the lapse of a century since the fabrication and promulgation of the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" by the Japanese imperialists. The Japanese imperialists' forcible fabrication of the "Ulsa Five-point Treaty" and the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" brought unprecedentedly horrific misfortune, pain and disaster to the Korean nation, the statement said. Japan, however, has justified its aggression and, moreover, has persisted in hostile acts against the Korean nation as evidenced by its territorial claim to Tok Islets, far from making due apology and reparation for its crimes, it noted, and stressed: Firstly, Japan should make thorough-going apology and reparation for its aggression and colonial rule over Korea and the unspeakable disaster and pain suffered by the Korean nation at the hands of Japan. Japan should declare totally null and void before the Koreans and the world all kinds of "treaties" including the "Ulsa Five-point Treaty" and the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" by which it enforced the colonial rule over the Korean nation. It should make apology and reparation for all forms of monstrous crimes it committed against the Korean nation for a century including the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army, forcible drafting and conscription and massacre and unconditionally return all cultural artifacts it took from Korea. Secondly, Japan should immediately stop unjust discrimination, political persecution and suppression of Koreans in Japan. It should stop the suppression of Koreans in Japan and its unwarranted discrimination against Korean schools and ensure on a preferential basis the rights of the Koreans in Japan including the right to existence and the right to national education. Thirdly, Japan should immediately stop distorting history by whitewashing Japan's history of colonization, the moves to grab Tok Islets and its persistent attempt to revive militarism. In particular, it should abolish the DPRK-Japan hostile relations and no longer stand in the way of peace and security in Northeast Asia. The statement appealed to all the Koreans at home and abroad to turn out in the just patriotic movement to defend the national dignity and force Japan to redress its crime-woven history. |
