Ri Yong Chol, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, and other speakers said that Kim Jong Il's start of his leadership over Kim Il Sung University in Juche 49 (1960) marked a historic event that put the Korean youth movement onto a new higher stage.

They noted that he comprehensively clarified the essence and mission of the socialist youth movement and ways to fulfill it, paving the way for developing the Korean youth movement.

He comprehensively expounded the idea and theory of the youth movement based on the revolutionary outlook on the leader for the first time in history, providing guidelines for developing the Juche-oriented youth movement, they noted, and went on:

The young Korean people have grown to be revolutionary and militant ranks which remain loyal to the Songun leadership of the party, glorifying their worthy lives as vanguard fighters devotedly defending the leader. This is entirely thanks to the outstanding and tested leadership of Kim Jong Il, who energetically led the youth league through his revolutionary activities at the university.

Thanks to his meticulous guidance, the Juche-oriented stand was established in the students' study of subjects, a scientific method of learning introduced and various mass movements for improving study made brisk progress.

It is a fundamental guarantee for further strengthening the youth league into the Songun youth organization of the party to add shine to the feats performed by him in leading the youth movement in his university days, the speakers said, underscoring the need for the youth league to carry out its mission and duty.
