Opposition parties including the Democratic Labor Party held that the above-mentioned final report is only adding to the doubts about the case, far from helping probe the truth about it. They termed this window-dressing to cover up suspicions about the warship case.

The "joint action for a probe into the truth about Cheonan case and peace on the Korean Peninsula" grouping more than 40 civic and public organizations including the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification, the Solidarity for Progress and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea in its statement urged the military group to open to the public all information about the case and punish the chief culprit and demanded the "National Assembly" promptly conduct inspection of state administration.

The Citizen's Solidarity for Democratic Society declared that the final report released by the Ministry of Defence only caused the public reliability to further sink. It demanded a thorough probe into the truth about the warship case through the inspection of state administration.

Meanwhile, more than 1,160 people from all walks of life in Seoul filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Administrative Court on Sept. 17 demanding the puppet minister of Defence and the chairman of the Audit and Inspection open the information about the case to the public.
