Present there were So Chung On, director of the International Affairs and Reunification Department of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), officials of Chongryon, compatriots of different circles and members of the Japanese Regional Committee.

Kwak Tong Ui, chairman of the committee, said in his speech that the October 4 declaration is a programme for comprehensively implementing the June 15 joint declaration and a banner greatly encouraging the Koreans in the efforts to achieve independent development and reunification.

All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad have demonstrated the ardent desire of the nation for reunification and developed the reunification movement into a nationwide patriotic movement, centering around All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration, he said, stressing that this is a manifestation of the validity and vitality of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

He denounced the Lee Myung Bak regime of south Korea for totally denying the declarations and bringing back the favorably developing inter-Korean relations to those in the times before the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, pursuant to the policy for escalating the confrontation with the DPRK.

He called upon all the people to conduct a more dynamic movement for national reunification under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" in order to usher in the era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity.

Introduced at the meeting were solidarity messages from the North Side Committee, and the Chinese, European and U.S. Regional Committees of the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration.

A resolution was adopted at the meeting.

Meanwhile, a lecture was given on the situation of the Korean Peninsula and the future of the Korean nation.
