Speakers said at the event that the Koreans who have lived with the pride of being a homogeneous nation with a history spanning 5,000 years and brilliant culture since Tangun founded Korea should put a definite end to the division and confrontation and achieve peaceful reunification in the near future.

The present grave situation in which contradictions and confrontation between the south and the north are running high and the military tension is mounting on the Korean Peninsula as the days go by urgently requires great national unity and cooperation, they noted.

A declaration released at the event underscored the need for the people of various strata to achieve national reunification without fail and protect the sovereignty and dignity of the nation by the concerted efforts of the Koreans.

It called upon the people from all walks of life to wage a dynamic struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and turn out as one in the struggle to resolutely refute and oppose outsiders' domination, interference and war moves against the Korean nation and defend the security of the nation and peace on this land.
