President Kim Il Sung advanced the proposal for founding the DFRK in October 1980, an immortal feat to shine long in the history of the Koreans' movement for reunification, the statement said, and went on:

Energetic activities of General Secretary Kim Jong Il resulted in formulating the three charters for national reunification which include the proposal for founding the DFRK and adopting the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. This provided a sure guarantee for reunifying the country by federal formula based on the noble patriotic idea of "By the Korean nation itself" and a milestone for national reunification.

The proposal most correctly reflects the principle of independence, peaceful reunification and the great unity of the entire nation and the reality of the Korean Peninsula. It is a reasonable and just and aboveboard one for reunification as it fully meets the interests of the Korean nation and its neighboring countries.

The statement demanded the south Korean authorities and the U.S. stop their moves against the DPRK and the reunification of Korea.

It extended support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country free from outside interference, guided by the idea of "By the Korean nation itself."
