Inter-Korean Reconciliation and Cooperation Called for

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Unshakable are the desire and will of all the Koreans at home and abroad to put an end to the prevailing situation of the inter-Korean confrontation, a situation running counter to the June 15 era of reunification, and achieve independent reunification, peace and prosperity through national reconciliation and cooperation. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed article. It goes on: National reconciliation and cooperation are not only a prerequisite to the country's reunification but a unanimous desire of all the fellow countrymen as well as an urgent need of the times. There are neither reasons nor conditions for the north and the south of Korea to fail to achieve reconciliation and cooperation between them. Though they differ from each other in ideology and system they can surely get reconciled and cooperate with each other when they do things on the basis of the common points as a homogeneous nation which has created the same culture and history in the same territory since the time immemorial and the daily growing desire for reunification. Whoever loves the country and the nation and desires reunification should regard national reconciliation and cooperation as a common objective and orient and subordinate everything to achieving it. To this end, it is necessary, above all, to firmly preserve and sincerely implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration. Dialogue and cooperation between the north and the south should be developed into those for the country's reunification in the true sense of the word. It is important to abolish all the legal and institutional mechanisms lying in the way of achieving national reunification through national reconciliation and cooperation. Any act of quelling the Koreans' desire for reunification in violation of the said declarations can neither be tolerated nor justified. |
